Introduction & Overview |
AHAVA is product developer based in the Dead Sea Region. They have created an extensive product line which is based on their desire to “unearth the secrets of the revitalizing effects of minerals on the skin”. They are deeply invested in researching minerals on a world wide basis, and as you may suspect most of their skin care products are based on the use of minerals, as well as other natural elements.
Ahava Optimizer Serum is an anti-aging formula, which was developed to deeply hydrate user’s skin, by using a light gel-lotion that is rich in natural elements. This product has become a best seller on their site, however, only through thoroughly investigating its formulary can we really discover its true abilities in the anti-aging arena.

 | Ingredients in Focus |
This products does use a formula that is rich is herbal extracts and minerals, which may help boost overall skin health. For instance, Lemon Extract is an astringent; Algae extract is a known emollient; Sugar Cane extract is often used to exfoliate; and Butcherbroom is an anti-inflammatory. This formula is also enriched with Magnesium and Calcium, which are used to strengthen the skins protective barrier. This product may well make users skin feel better, but we doubt it will do much to help decrease the signs of aging that may of us wrestle with as we get older.
This formula was designed to hydrate the skin, which is actually an extremely effective way of increasing smoothness, softness, and elasticity of the skin to effectively to combat facial wrinkles. However, they have not used the most effective elements to achieve this affect. For instance, they failed to include Hyaluronic Acid in this formulary, which is unfortunate, because it is one of the top performers in this arena.

 | Lifestyle |
Collagen depletion is one of the main causes of facial aging, and is for this reason the more progressive formulas will uses some kind of collage replenishing technology in their products. It is unfortunate that Optimizer Serum by Ahava does not use this particular technology. Also, Matrixyl 3000 is often used to increase collagen products, as well as to reduce wrinkles. It has been shown in recent studies to be able to decrease the density, volume and depth of wrinkles. It is also not used in this products formulary.

 | Final Thoughts |
While we applaud this products use of herbal extracts and minerals, we do not believe that the compilation they have created is at the level of effectiveness that many consumers need in terms of alleviating facial lines, sagging and wrinkles. We feel they have failed to use the most advanced technology available. As noted above, Collagen relishing technology, such as Matrixyl 3000, has been shown to be able to help significantly decrease wrinkle volume, density and depth, but it is not used in this product.
Also, while this product may hydrate user’s skin somewhat, we feel its other abilities are rather limited. For instance, products that use Hyaluronic Acid are far superior in terms of replenishing skin with the water it needs to remain vibrant, smooth and supple.
