Introduction & Overview |
Many of us have grown up around Almay products, because they have been very popular with women, and they have been around for a really long time. Almay was founded in 1931, and all their products are purported to be pure and hypoallergenic in nature. Almay started making skin care products and cosmetics back in the 1930’s when makeup was heavy and thick; and made out of strong pigments and powerful chemicals, which can be harsh on the skin.
For this reason Alfred Woititz, a chemist, started trying to create products for his wife. After enlisting the help of Dr. Marion Sulzberge, a dermatologist, Almay’s product line was born. However, times have changed and consumers have many products to choose from, especially when it comes to anti-aging formulas. Almay’s Anti-Aging Booster Serum has been used by many consumers, but let’s look at its formula to see what it can deliver to users in terms of increased skin elasticity and reduced facial wrinkling.

 | Ingredients in Focus |
Moringa Pterygosperma Seed Extract, which is also known as Miracle Tree is used in this formula. It is purported to contain nutritious elements such as potassium, iron, vitamin A and other nutrients, many of which are very nourishing for the skin. In fact Moringa has a long history of being used to help heal and rejuvenate, and was called the "the tree of life."
It is purported to be able to help diminish the look of fine lines, as well as improve skin tone and texture. In fact it may well be able to do exactly that. However, while this is a good skin care product it is not “great” nor does it use the best compilations of skin rejuvenators, which given the cost of this product is not entirely unexpected.
For instance, the more effective products will often use Argireline, which is a hexapeptide that is believed to be able to inhibit the release of neurotransmitters. However, when it is applied to the skin, it has been shown to be able to relax facial tension, thereby lessening facial lines and wrinkles with regular use. Our research shows that in many ways its abilities mimic effects of Botox, which reduces facial tension. However, Argireline achieves this affect in much more benign and yet effective mechanism.

This retailer’s website provides consumers with a limited amount of information regarding this product. We would have liked to have seen some testimonials posted on this website from consumers who have used this product and achieved younger looking skin by using it. This kind of information is almost always provided by the higher quality products which generate verifiable results, and the fact it is missing from this site was disappointing.

 | Positives |
• May be able to help moisturize skin somewhat
• Inexpensive
|
 | Negatives |
• Does not seem to be a modern formula
• No testimonials posted at time of review
|
 | Final Thoughts |
Almay’s Anti-Aging Booster Serum is clearly marketed toward those individuals who are interested in increasing their skin health, as well as reducing the outward signs of aging such as wrinkles. However, our findings suggest it is best suited as a way to moisturize the skin, and the inclusion of Moringa may help revitalize the skin somewhat; but we do not see how it can directly and effectively reduce the appearance of wrinkles in users. It does not use any of the elements we feel which have been proven to directly affect this issue such as Argireline, or Real Collagen, which can directly enhance the elasticity, smoothness and vitality of skin.

Ann Burk: I bought the Almay smart shade makeup in light. After I had it for a period it became darker and I can't use it. What did I do wrong and is there anything that I can do to salvage the foundation so I can use it. I really do like it but I can't use it as dark as it is. I hope to get a reply. Thank you Ann Burk
connie dewalt: bought touch-pad liquid blush and do not know how to use it - no directions in package.
