Estee Lauder is perhaps one of the best known of the high-end skincare and cosmetics retailers. The company claims to provide “products that come with a promise to uphold the finest standards of excellence through extensive research and stringent product testing.” Estee Lauder products are said to be available “in better department stores and specialty stores.”
It seems to us that it is a common phenomenon for “established” companies to begin to exhibit complacency in their “privileged” status. While many of the younger, more ambitious companies are eager to make their products available online, Estee Lauder seems to cling to the “old-fashioned” retail model prevalent in the year of its launch, 1946. This unwillingness to move forward with the times may ultimately represent an inconvenience to even the most devoted customers. We will assess this product line for its feasibility in modern skincare.

Estee Lauder offers a very wide range of cosmetics, perfumes and skincare products. The skincare line features exfoliants, moisturizers, “problem solvers,” masques and more. The company specifically focuses on products for people age “35 and under” and “35 and beyond.” Also offered are several wrinkle creams, serums, cleansers/toners and even eye care products. A line of sun-protection products and a self-tanning lotion address the issue of healthy skin without sun damage. The company also sells some rather high-end “luxury gifts” for special occasions or holidays.

For the purposes of this review, we will focus on one of this manufacturer’s main anti-aging products, the AntiWrinkle Solution with Future Perfect. This product is said to be a “targeted system of Repair and Moisturizer formulas” that is intended to “keep skin beautiful and healthy-looking—immediately and year after year.” This collection is said to come with a Future Perfect Anti-Wrinkle Radiance Creme SPF 15 for Normal/Combination Skin, the Perfectionist Correcting Serum for Lines/Wrinkles/Age Spots, an Advanced Night Repair Protective Recovery Complex and a Soft Clean Moisture Rich Foaming Cleanser. We are rather surprised to see that the ingredients in this product do not appear to be included on the Website. We would have preferred to assess whether this product features today’s most advanced skincare ingredients, such as Hyaluronic Acid and Argireline®.

This company’s Website is designed in a rather professional and aesthetically-pleasing manner. It is certainly not surprising that such a long-standing company would be represented by a stylish and appealing Website. However, we would have preferred to see some type of consumer testimonials on this site. Particularly since the ingredients do not seem to be listed, it seems to us that some sort of assurance of quality would be valuable. It seems as though this company may be banking on its reputation to persuade customers, rather than feeling the need to “prove” anything. It is our contention that all companies, old or new, must continually reassert the quality of their products.

While we feel that this company’s reputation is built on quality, we feel that it is every company’s responsibility to consistently maintain this quality. It is our opinion that this manufacturer’s apparent unwillingness to offer online purchasing or divulge its ingredients reflects an unwillingness to keep up with the times.
We feel that for today’s woman, the convenience of online purchasing is often essential. We also believe it is beneficial for individuals to have the option of returning a product, even after it has been opened. There are quality formulas available online from manufacturers that offer a complete money-back guarantee, provide much consumer feedback and are available at reasonable prices.
