L’Oreal is a very well known manufacturer of skincare, hair care and cosmetics products. The company, which owns several other brands and has various international locations, is said to “provide affordable luxury for people who demand excellence in beauty.” L’Oreal claims to offer men and women on every continent beauty and personal care products that incorporate the latest scientific advances.”
At the time of review, it appears to us that this company does not sell its products online from its official website. We feel that in modern times, this sort of resistance to change reflects a lack of consideration for the consumer. We would add that the corporate Website for this company struck us as inordinately confusing and difficult to navigate. While this company most likely does much of is business in retail stores, we nevertheless feel that a viable internet presence is necessary. We will assess this brand for its ability to meet the skincare needs of the modern consumer.

L’Oreal markets a very broad range of skincare products, cosmetics and hair care products. The company sells shampoos, hair color, and a full line of makeup. Within the skincare category, L’Oreal offers cleansers/toners, various anti-aging and anti-wrinkle products, moisturizers, and products for adult acne. L’Oreal also sells eye creams, makeup removers, and body toning gels and sun protection products.

For the purpose of this review, we will narrow our focus to just one of this company’s products, the Dermo-Expertise Wrinkle Decrease Wrinkle Corrector. This product is said to “visibly help correct expression lines and wrinkles and rejuvenate facial features.” We were rather surprised that this product does not appear to include more potent ingredients. Ingredients like the emollient Cyclopentasiloxane, which is described as a “silicone fluid commonly used in cosmetics such as deodorants, sunblocks and hair sprays,” may moisten the skin, but seems unlikely to correct deep wrinkles. We would have preferred to see more targeted ingredients such as Collagen, which is said to decrease the depth of wrinkles, and Hyaluronic Acid, which restores youthful moisture.

We found this company’s Website to be particularly confounding and frustrating. Despite its “high-fashion” look, we found its usefulness to be minimal. We considered the site to be difficult to navigate, and experienced some links that appeared “dead.” In addition, it seems that this company does not sell its products online, instead directing consumers to the Websites of other retailers.
We believe that this refusal to accommodate today’s busy consumer reflects a poor customer service ethic. In addition, we would have preferred to see some sort of consumer testimonials posted on this Website. We also were unable to locate any information about this company’s refund policy. We believe that consumers should be able to return products at any point, even after they have been opened.

We believe that despite its well-known reputation, this company’s products may not contain the most advanced anti-aging ingredients. This company’s broad focus on hair care and makeup products may have detracted from its attention to its skincare line.
We believe that the best skincare products are those that are developed with targeted ingredients by specialized companies. We feel that advanced ingredients like Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid have the potential to truly offset signs of aging.
