Introduction & Overview |
Lancome is arguably one of the best-known skincare and cosmetics companies in the world. The company sells a wide variety of products, ranging from makeup to anti-aging products to perfumes. These products can be purchased either in retail outlet locations, or online at the company’s Website. The company claims to be “always on the move, creating exquisite new beauty treats.”
We do respect the fact that among the “old-school” beauty product manufacturers, this is one of the few that has branched out into online selling. We feel that this is crucial in today’s computer-dependent world, and reflects an adaptability to change. However, it seems to us that some of the products sold by this company may not fully maximize the most cutting-edge ingredients in anti-aging technology. It has been our observation that established companies all too often develop a sense of “complacency” where innovation is concerned. We will assess this company’s line of products for their ability to stack up to the competition, rather than for their name alone.

Lancome markets a full line of skincare products, including masks/exfoliators, cleansers/toners, moisturizers, day and night treatments, eye treatments, and lip treatments. Also available are sun-protection products, serums, gift sets, and “at-home treatments.” The company also promotes a full line of cosmetics and fragrances.

For the purposes of this review, we will analyze one particular product, the Renergie MicroLift R.A.R.E™. This anti-aging product is said to “invent a new cosmetic lift with R.A.R.E. technology – Re-bundling and Repositioning Effect.” This product claims to utilize “breakthrough oligopeptide doubles protein links to re-bundle Collagen,” which causes skin to “appear lifted and firmed.” We were rather surprised to discover that with the exception of this rather vague description, very little detail about was disclosed regarding this product’s ingredients. We feel that all manufacturers – even ones as established as Lancome – are accountable to their customers.
This generally means providing important product information to the public. We also were disappointed to see that this product includes ingredients designed to “bundle” Collagen, but does not appear to contain Collagen itself. We believe that ingredients that utilize real, fresh Collagen have a distinct advantage in replenishing the skin’s youthful appearance.

This company’s Website seems to be well designed, organized and fairly informative. However, there was very little information about the company itself, which we found to be rather arrogant. We do not feel that companies should simply assume that they are such a “big name” that they require no introduction. We also were surprised by the apparent lack of consumer testimonials at the time of review. We feel that consumer testimonials can be an important method of information-sharing among the buying public. The fact that there do not seem to be any on this Website was disconcerting to us. We also would have greatly preferred to see full ingredient lists provided for each of this company’s products.

| Final Thoughts |
We do not believe that any skincare company should become so “comfortable” that they do not feel an obligation or accountability to their customers. We would have preferred that this company demonstrate a more straightforward, consumer-friendly attitude.
We are aware of several up-and-coming skincare products that provide full ingredient lists on their Websites, are advocated by consumer testimonials, and provide excellent customer service. Some of these products utilize fresh, advanced ingredients such as real Collagen and Argireline.
