Murad Essential C Daily Renewal Complex® |
 |
Introduction & Overview |
Essential C Daily Renewal Complex® is part of the skincare line promoted by the company, Murad. This manufacturer approaches anti-aging products with two different methods. They either try to prevent skin from suffering damage from the environment, or due to hormones. This product falls in the Murad Environment Aging line, and is said to reduce fines lines and to decrease the appearance of sun damage.
This product is suggested to be used with several other Murad products. Oftentimes, we find that people prefer to use a product that is promoted to work on its own, and have confidence in a manufacturer that dedicates their abilities to creating a single, successful cream. However, we believe it is still necessary to study a product before making a purchase, which is why we will study this cream to determine if it may have the capabilities to achieve the advertised benefits.

 | Ingredients at a Glance |
This product is said to contain the following ingredients: Cyclomethicone, Ascorbic Acid, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, C12-15 Alkyl Ethylhexanoate, Di-C12-15 Alkyl Fumarate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinol, Bisabolol, Allantoin, Lysine Lauroyl Methionate, Rice Amino Acids, Zinc Aspartate, Chitosan Ascorbate, Retinyl Palmitate, Cyanocobalamin, Beta-Carotene, Ranunculus Ficaria Extract, Phytonadione, Glycine, Glutamic Acid, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Vegetable Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil, Ocimum Basilicum (Basil) Oil, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil and Ferula Galbaniflua (Galbanum) Resin Oil.
This product is said to contain both Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Vitamin C may moisturize the skin, while Vitamin E is known to soothe skin, and has been used in the treatment of scars. There are claims that it also decreases wrinkles, but studies indicating so are still forthcoming.

 | Ingredients in Focus |
One of the most active ingredients in this formula is Retinol, which is also known as Vitamin A and contained within many skincare and anti-aging products. Retinol is said to rejuvenate the skin. There is thought this ingredient may increase cell turnover, which could renew the top dermal layer. Also, this ingredient is said to decrease wrinkles, but to date there have not been strong studies to support this. It is more likely the visibility of pores will be diminished with use of this ingredient.
As evident from the list above, this product contains quite a high number of ingredients, and we have to wonder if a cream with fewer, more concentrated ingredients would be more effective in addressing anti-aging issues.
|
 | Lifestyle Benefits |
This product may aid in the renewal of skin if Vitamin A may effectively stimulate cell turnover. If this occurs, the advertised radiance and glow may occur. However, this process may also create sensitivity to the sun and possible dry patches.
Another ingredient, Matrixyl 3000®, is said to stimulate the production of Collagen at a sub-dermal level. This may decrease wrinkles and lines, since the natural decline of Collagen may cause skin to lose its firmness and elasticity. Unfortunately, this product does not contain this patented Collagen stimulator.

|
 | Final Thoughts |
This product is said to take on the environmental effects of aging. The posted formula shows that this cream contains several moisturizing agents, and an ingredient that is meant to turn over the top layer of skin. In addition, the maker of this cream also advertises it will synthesize Collagen production, but the formula does not support this claim, and the company does not cite research behind this function. Furthermore, this product may be rather expensive, especially since it is said to work best when used with several other Murad products. On its own, a one ounce bottle of this Renewal Complex costs about $90.
A product that actually stimulates Collagen may be more successful in decreasing the appearance of wrinkles, which may be why some women prefer a product with the above mentioned Matrixyl 3000®.
