In the skin care market there are single products that are extremely focused and created by their developers to hone in on skin care issues, such as anti-aging; and there are developers who create products lines focused on multiple issues. We find some developers pull off creating a product line that is comprehensive, while others spread themselves too thin.
For this reason, we usually prefer very focused products. However, let’s take a look at the A-Defiance product line, which is also called “Very Serious” in some of their advertisements. Many of these products are geared toward increasing skin health, and reducing the signs of aging many of us wrestle with, such as wrinkles, crow’s feet and facial lines.

Peptides are individual portions of proteins, which are used in the body to regulate the activity of many different systems. Peptides actually work by influencing other cells. For instance, some peptides target hormone activity, while others influence immune function. Still others are believed to play some role in wound healing, and are said to influence the pathology of skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis and eczema.
This is why products such as A-Defiance Serious Skin Care A-Wash with Peptides seek to harness their power. This product contains “three different peptides, Vitamin A and natural botanical extracts”, but they fail to mention which peptides they use, which makes it impossible for us to ascertain how effective it may be.
In general, some peptides that benefit wound healing, skin barrier repair or disinfecting skin have trouble penetrating the skin, and may be unstable, because they are considered too hydrophilic, or water-loving. However, Matrixyl 3000® is a peptide complex which has been found to be very effective, so much so that in recent studies it was shown to have a direct effect on wrinkle density, volume and depth. It was shown to decrease wrinkle density by 33% and decrease wrinkle volume by 23%; both of which were an unprecedented accomplishments. However, we have no way of knowing if Matrixyl 3000® is used in this product line or not.

The HSN shopping network and website have a huge array of products for sale. Many people enjoy their TV shopping channel, however, many others prefer online shopping, which gives them easy access to products. They actually sell a wide variety of A-Defiance products, and they have included a mechanism that allows individuals to write product reviews; however, many of the A-Defiance products have very few reviews, which is a red flag for us in terms of a product’s viability.

The fact that the A-Defiance line is featured on some online shopping venues may be very appealing to some women. However, the fact that they don’t fully disclose their formulary makes it hard for us to ascertain its overall effectiveness.
