Introduction & Overview |
SkinCeuticals was founded in 1997, and was originally intended to discover, develop, and deliver innovative dermatology products, which are geared toward augmenting skin health and appearance. In general, research has shown that skin ages due to many different factors, and it is not just due to aging. For instance, exposure to environmental factors such as sunlight, smoke, and air pollution all have a profound affect on the appearance and health of skin.
This means that they all contribute to the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and blemishes, as well as conditions such as skin cancer. SkinCeuticals anti-aging formula C E Ferulic, is advertised as being able to preserve skin health and reduce the signs and symptoms of aging. However, let’s take a look at its formulary to see what it can actually deliver.
|
 | Ingredients at a Glance |
SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic is advertised as containing 15% pure L-ascorbic acid and 1% alpha tocopherol, as well as ferulic acid. However, we have little doubt that it contains other elements, but this information was not disclosed. We actually like to see skin care product developers make full disclose, because we feel strongly that consumers have a right to know exactly want they are putting on their skin.

 | Ingredients in Focus |
SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic uses an antioxidant combination, in order to protect skin from photoaging, which is caused by free radicals. It also contains L-ascorbic acid, alpha tocopherol and ferulic acid to boost the potency of the antioxidants in this formula. This product is purported to be able to help rebuild collagen, and provide “unmatched antioxidant protection”. However, we failed to understand how they hope to achieve this given the elements used in this formulary. We would have understood better if this product used Real Collagen, but it does not. Real Collagen has been shown to be able to directly help the body replenish its collagen supply, which has a direct affect on reducing the appearance of wrinkles and increasing skin elasticity.
Also, this product developer has failed to address issues around skin hydration, which is a primary concern for many individuals. For instance, products that contain Hyaluronic Acid have been in high demand among consumers who have done their homework where skin health and aging are concerned. This is because it has been shown to refresh and hydrate facial skin, while also augmenting smoothness, softness and elasticity. It has also been shown to be able to significantly decrease facial wrinkles. Unfortunately, neither Hyaluronic Acid nor Real Collagen is used in this particular formula.
|
 | Lifestyle |
SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic was designed for daily use, and it comes in a serum form which is a highly effective, when the proper ingredients are used. It was also designed to be used with their Hydrating B5 Gel, moisturizer and sun block. Some consumers like to use multiple products while others feel that it is as unwarranted expense, and for this reason some consumers look for products that give the skin everything it needs to be healthy, glowing and ageless.

 | Final Thoughts |
Clearly skin care is important, and choosing a product to protect and replenish the skin can help with maintaining skin health, and reduce the signs of aging. In many ways SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic has skin protection under control, because it is full of antioxidants, but we are not convinced this formula will be able to effectively reduce the appearance of wrinkles, or impede their development.
This product lacks elements such as Real Collagen or Hyaluronic Acid. Real Collagen has been shown to be able replenish collagen, in order to enhance and retain elasticity, smoothness and softness; Hyaluronic Acid has been shown to significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and to hydrate and revitalize the skin.
