We were rather surprised to learn that Spanish Fly is actually illegal for sale in the United States, except in use on farm animals or for “certain types of warts”. One researcher states, “Some internet or mail order suppliers of sex stimulants advertise such products like "Herbal Spanish fly", "Mexican Spanish Fly", or "Spanish Fly Potion". Most of these products are simply Cayenne pepper in capsules, sometimes blended with the powder of Ginseng, Kelp, Ginger, or Gotu Kola.” Apparently, authentic Spanish Fly is considered dangerous unless administered in a specific amount. One expert reports,“ It is dangerous since the amount required is minuscule and the difference between the effective dose and the harmful dose is quite narrow. Cantharides cause painful urination, fever, and sometimes bloody discharge. They can cause permanent damage to the kidneys and genitals.”

It is our belief that, in addition to the other highly questionable aspects of this formulation, its delivery method is flawed. We believe that for female sexual enhancement, the best approach is topical application directly to the clitoris. Because this approach allows for stimulation of the nerve endings in the clitoris, it generally has a fast-acting effect. However, we do not feel that there is truly any “ideal” delivery method for an ingredient that may be harmful and is said to be illegal.

We believe that the best components for female arousal and satisfaction tend to be safe and all-natural. These ingredients increase blood flow to the genitals, prompt lubrication, and create a sense of excitement and desire. We would also encourage consumers to avoid topical products that utilize Paraben preservatives. These ingredients are said to be potentially carcinogenic.

We believe that at best, this product is likely inauthentic, and at worst, potentially hazardous. It seems to us that over the years, many more potent and safe sexual enhancement products have been developed for women.

We believe that topical formulations applied to the clitoris tend to yield the most immediate stimulation. We have heard good things about the ingredients Shea Butter, Coconut and Menthol.
